S. R. Fletcher Interview

Get To Know S.R. Fletcher

How long have you been writing? I have been writing since I was a little girl. But professionally since 2018. Describe your writing space? My first 6 books were written at my regular job because I had a lot of downtime. The rest of my books have been written in my home. I have my laptop, bed and television with me. I watch movies while writing! What has influenced you the most as a writer? Not trying to be cheesy but God. God influences me to write. I never saw myself as an author. But I was told by 3 different folks that God wanted me to write. It was my destiny. I am following what God wants me to do. What was your first book release, how did you feel? Luvin’ My Dirty South Thug was my first release. I was anxious and nervous for the release.  Do you hear from your readers much? What do they say? I hear from a few and they all love my writing style. They tell me how they related to my books. They call me trifling for some of the stuff I do in my books lol. How many books have you written, Which is your favorite? 14 books written so far. I have a couple of favorites. Loving a Boss Held Captive By His and The Twisted Way That I Love You  Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special. All of my characters are special in their own way. My favorite male character is Dyse! Lord knows I would love a Dyse in my life. Strong, arrogant at times, loving, and just savage. My favorite female character would have to be Skylar from Luvin My Dirty South Thug. She was so weak at the beginning but she turned into a strong woman that many admired. Which of your books were the most enjoyable to write? All of them! When I write I only put out what flows smoothly and that is all of my books thus far. What is the key theme and/or message in the book Beauty Is Her Name? The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Lastly, love hurts no matter who loves you or who you love you. It doesn’t hurt the whole time but it hurts at times. I wanted to show how things are when you deal with different types of men.  If you had to describe character Beauty in three words, what would those three words be? Naive, Strong-willed, loyal. When you wrote The Twisted Way That I Love You(T.T.W.T.I.L.Y) was there parts your removed, what was it? I didn’t remove anything at all. That story flowed through me.  How do you develop your plot and characters for T.T.W.T.I.L.Y? Honestly, I don’t have a set way that I developed my characters. I love wow factors so I always try to hit it out of the park. I wanted this book to be Twisted yet still show love and what love makes you do sometimes. Are there any similarities between you can your characters Beauty and Taylor? I am like Beauty where I kept trying to find my prince. I was hurt by a man that I thought would love and protect me. Instead, I was lied and cheated on. Like Beauty, I remained strong even when I wanted to breakdown.  I am like Taylor because I have a son. I am a single mom. I would do ANYTHING for my child. Taylor did anything to make sure her child was good. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be? Overachiever, hard-worker, stubborn. What do you like to do when you are not writing? I love to read, spend time with my boyfriend and son. I love watching movies and sleep. Lord anyone who knows me knows my favorite thing to do in this world is sleep. They know I have 2 boyfriends and one of them is definitely my bed lol. Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about? I just submitted Broken By a Heartless Thug and am currently re-reading it and fixing what the editor sent back! What books or authors have most influenced your own writing? None honestly. Now I do have a few favorites but my writing style isn’t like theirs. I like to be different. My faves are Krystal Armstead, J. Charnise, KC Mills, Nikki Brown, and Mesha! I will read anyone’s work as long as it keeps my interest. Lastly, what are your thoughts on what we are experiencing today with Black Lives Matter the protests, etc? I’m going to be real more power to the people who want to go out and protest. I for one will not participate. For two reasons. Firstly coronavirus is real and I am at risk. Secondly, it’s not making a difference. For years we have marched, protested, rioted, looted and nothing has changed. Well, let me clarify it has changed but it only has changed it’s formed. Meaning back in the day we were sold and beaten. Then we were hung and beaten and killed. Now we are being shot and killed. We are hated in silence because folks don’t want to go to jail or be convicted by people.  I personally have been praying. I believe in God. I believe his words. God said vengeance is his. God said fear, not anyone or anything but him. God said he would protect us. I am looking to God for the solution. Rioting isn’t going to fix this issue. Praying, voting, and holding people accountable will make changes. Instead of raising kids to be football players or rappers. Raise these young Kings and queens to be president, Vice President, senators, governors, mayors, judges, FBI, law enforcement and so much more. Teach our youth that voting matters. Teach our youth that people need to be held accountable for their wrongdoings. If these cops were held accountable I believe they would stop. Don’t make up things like third-degree murder to basically shut up the public. Make an example out of these cops send them to death row and show them that we will not tolerate their ignorance.  I could go on forever but I won’t. I love my black community. I love the passion that these folks have. I just think they need to think of a better way because what we are doing isn’t working. We still getting killed, beaten, and sold in 2020
