Q & A with Courtney Marie

Get to know more about that Author & that Book

What inspired you to start writing this book? I wanted to write a book where you saw the "darker" side of being a criminal. That wasn't so focused on the romantic aspect of the bad guys getting the girl or the guy. I wanted to take people on a journey of the emotional and mental toll it takes on the characters.

How did you develop your plot and characters?  The plot came about when I decided I wanted to paint two different outcomes of people who came out of the same situation. Not everyone handles trauma the same and I wanted to explore that. Then with the characters I wanted to create a yin/yang dynamic. I didn't want Ameena to be a damsel I wanted her strong, fierce, and unapologetic. Amir I wanted him to be good-hearted and torched because he knows that this wasn't the life for him.

What is your favorite part of the book Love, Lies and Blood Ties? My favorite part of Love, Lies, and Blood Ties what the scene where Ameena had to go into the house and be the decoy to get the drugs backs and she was surrounded by the guys and just being sexy and fierce.

What is your least favorite part of the book Love, Lies and Blood Ties? I don't have a least favorite part, I can tell you I struggled with writing the last chapter because I was worried as a new author how people would receive it. I bit the bullet and went for what I wanted to write and I'm happy about it.

What were the key challenges you faced when writing this book? The key challenge I faced when writing the book was researching getting information for inspiration. I love action and suspense so I spent a lot of time researching things. I wanted to write something that read almost like a movie. Somewhat realistic, but also alluring. Time management was a challenge for me as well.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? As a writer my mascot would be a shark with the Jaws theme music playing in the background, lol.

Are you currently working on book two, what can your reads anticipate in book two? I am currently working on book two ripping it apart and putting it back together so it can be just as good if not better than part 1. After the ending in part one, readers can expect a little more chaos to follow. The ride is not over yet.
