BOOK REVIEW: Love Cycle

Love Cycle

by SL Jenkins

Hey Girl!

It would be remiss of me to not mention my girl SL Jenkins who has been rocking with me since her debut novel and always making sure I check out her books. She contacted me earlier this year and said, girl, I want you to check out this book that I am working on. Man, I was like, 'you know I don't need to read the synopsis, just send me the rough draft, so I can read it.' Every time I read her work and find myself falling in love with her stories, she never fails to amaze me. One of those novels I feel needs to be read is Love Cycle.

Take a look at the synopsis!

Dawn Langston is cruising through life. With her thriving skincare business, own money, own place, and own car the twenty-five year is on track to creating a successful life herself. Wanting to get out and live a little she goes to a club where she’s unexpectedly reunited with her long-lost best-friend Simone Ortega. Little did she know she would also be reconnected with Simone’s older brother, Vegas Ortega.

Dawn hated Vegas for as long as she could remember. With nothing but terrorizing memories as a child, she was convinced that Vegas was nothing more than a bully. But when she laid eyes on him for the first time in years, she couldn't help but notice the instant attraction between them. One steamy night at the club turned into a full-blown love cycle filled with highs and lows, trust issues, and a toxic love pattern neither one of them was prepared for.

Simone Ortega was the girl every man wanted, but none could keep. After her father’s tragic death, she convinced herself she’d never find another comparable love again. That was until one night she found herself in the company of Donovan Patterson, also known as “Dew”. Little did she know that night would change her life forever. Neither one of them could predict the love that would develop and furthermore, the heartbreak that would take place.

Take a trip with Dawn and Simone as they learn the rules to their hearts, the secrets from their past, and encounter a betrayal so devastating they’re both left questioning if love is even worth it anymore.

Book Cover

Let me begin by mentioning the cover of the book. It has a circle design on the front that emphasizes the book title because it's repeated round and round. Additionally, both genders look fantastic. I got the impression that it would be a deep message to be heard from the dark colors.

3 ½ stars

Let’s Chat About It

The Story

What I loved was the fact the main character Dawn was showcasing a woman who worked a legit business. Sis didn’t need a man with the bands because she could hold her own. I loved the BFF Simone. It’s always nice to have a BFF who you love and support and can link back up with after years of being apart and pick up where things left off. I loved it. As mentioned Dawn has her own beauty line, living comfortably and making her own money was something I loved about Dawn. She was a self-made entrepreneur who was extremely dedicated and was her own boss. I completely became engrossed in the book's first chapter. Girl, you fucked him in the office and haven't seen him for years. The two of you did not waste any time, no dates, hey how you doing just straight fucking Dawn! For sure, that was an OMG moment!

Dawn was dumbfounded when Simone told her the truth; she thought Vegas didn't have a crush on her. Vegas picked on her throughout her childhood. It is obvious when boys tease you as a child that they are crushing on you but he had no other way to express it to her. When she heard that, she acknowledged that the feeling was mutual, but she was still hesitant because she wanted him but yet they have not seen each other since childhood. A slow pace was necessary. Even though Dawn and Vegas took quite a while to build up their relationship, they eventually got there, only to have life truly test their love. Dawn's only drawback was that she always jumped to conclusions, she never questioned whether things were okay with Vegas and never gave him a chance to explain, which really got on my nerves.

Don't get me wrong, Vegas has issues as well, but I believe a bit of him matured after his father died. His decision to give his sister Simone such a hard time with her boyfriend Dew was so wrong. For some reason, these two were drawn to one another despite Dew's mysterious nature. The ending I saw coming but I wasn't happy about it. I shed a tear because that's not how it's supposed to happen, you know! Everybody's life had opened up and I was determined to know what would happen, but: Oh Lord, I've got to wait for book two!

Book Review By She Reads Fire

The way you got me was really good. The first thing I thought when I started reading was that she had a cute crush on Vegas, whom she hadn't seen in years and they hit it off like time hadn't passed, so I thought, "Okay, what's the deal?" Boom "Love cycle started making sense when the couples went through their personal shocking trails." Vegas and Dawn vibe were on ten but it was drama lingering coming to the surface. Dawn was out here being extra and making the situation worse. Simone... poor baby got the worst end out of all of them and I need part 2 like yesterday to see how this plays out hun! Although your work is at a different level from what I am used to, since I have only read erotic novels from you, I admire how you developed the theme of love cycles. Secrets, Love, I must know the outcome.

What I look forward to is If Vegas would be able to handle Dawn, the Dawn-Vegas relationship would be one to look forward to. As a whole, I am on edge to find out what will transpire for Dew and Simone. There is no doubt in my mind that bullets will fly, but then again, I believe Simone will have had time with this, given her bond with Dew.
