Interview Questions
Tell me a little about yourself? (Where are you from? How long have you been writing and etc.)
I am an army wife that has been married to the love of my life for twelve years, he and I have a beautiful six-year-old daughter and a handsome ball of energy son that is two. I am originally from Virginia, however being an army wife, home is wherever he is. Right now, we live in Georgia, however, in the next few weeks, we will be living in Germany for the second time. I have been writing since 2013, and currently have twenty-six books published with two being co-written, and I do have a new book releasing on the 20th. I am signed with the amazing B. Love at B. Love Publications.
A Rose for Two is your latest novel release and I have to say for this to be one of my first reads from you I absolutely enjoyed and looking forward to reading more of your novels. What was the inspiration for the story?
Thank you I am elated to hear that you enjoyed the story. Really the only inspiration for the story is a dream. I typically dream things and then I put my own little twist to them. That’s how most of my books come about, or sometimes I just incorporate situations I encounter into a story.
I admit I am a book reader who looks at the cover first then the title. And the cover is the bomb! But the title was even more fire to me. It intrigued me “A Rose for Two” I was like a romantic tale with a little oomph to it. With that being said I have to ask the following questions. What is the significance of the title? What was the process for coming up with the book cover?
So, the title of this book falls from the main character’s last name. Since the story is built and based on Quest Rose, I decided to use his last name as a part of the title. Since he is torn between two women, A Rose for Two fit so perfectly. As far as the cover goes, I have to shout out my amazing publisher for that LOL. I had something else in mind and like the brilliant teacher she is, she leads me in the correct direction that fits so perfectly for the story.
I feel like if you are an Author you are writing because it is a passion of yours you can correct me if this isn’t the case for you. What does it feel like to get paid to do something you love?
Honestly, I love writing, so with or without the money, I’d always write even if I was the only one reading lol. It’s a super plus to be doing what I love full-time and not only meeting new people, along with gaining readers as family, I am getting paid to do what I love and something that comes so naturally. So, it is a great feeling to be working yet not feel like I am actually working.
What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book(s)?
I think the most surprising would have to be, that when I am in my zone completely free of distractions, I can finish a 40k book in two days.
I’ve done some research to see learn about publishing a book and it seems like a lot of work. You definitely have to be dedicated to the craft. Tell us about your first published book? What was the journey like? How many sales did your first novel receive?
So, as I stated earlier I started writing in 2013 and that was before kindle unlimited became a thing, so I was paid per book (not pages), so sales and numbers were much different than what they are now. However, being a new author, my first book was over 100k and did extremely well, it had actually made it to the top 100 (lol I still have that screenshot). The first book is a two series called A perfect Harmonie its loosely, and I use it loosely as not many parts happen in real life. Anyway, it’s based loosely on my life, and because I was on bed rest while pregnant with my daughter the story came to life and unfolded with ease. I must be honest, though that book received so much good feedback, which is surprising because I lacked the education of really being an author then. I didn’t have the book professionally edited, no proofreader, test reader, any of that lol. I legit went through being a published author in the worse way possible. I went in with my hands over my eyes lol. But when you know better, you do better lol and I wouldn’t dare do what I did then. The journey I am forever thankful for as my growth today is amazing so that book will forever be my all-time favorite as they started me on my journey. My growth from then to now is amazing.
I love to ask Fun Questions to Authors because an Interview should not only be about your craft but it should show a little of your personality. Here are a few fun Questions.
Share a link to a favorite song.
If you could spend the entire day with your favorite book bae who would it be and why?
It would have to be Sean Knights aka Respect or Ree from Takerra Allen’s Thicker than Water Series, she wrote the hell out of that series, and I legit fell in love with that man lol.
If you could pair a bottle of wine with A Rose for Two what would it be & why?
I’d have to say Hennessey wine, I am unsure if it’s sold in the states. Anyway, I am pairing that with this book because of the stress, drama, and everything in between with this book, you’re going to need something extra strong lol.
